The University of Minnesota Extension
Service provides practical information to people who need it, when
they need it. Programs developed by Extension reflect local concerns
and the applied knowledge of the University of Minnesota and other
state and national research sources.
As a land-grant institution, the University of Minnesota has a
historically recognized, legislatively mandated responsibility to
extend its knowledge resources to the people of Minnesota.
Extension serves Minnesota in ways that are consistent with our
time-tests mission of connecting University resources to meet community
needs. We continually find new ways to make connections across the
University to bring research and resources to bear on the critical
issues facing Minnesota focusing on four areas: community development
and vitality; land, food, and environment; youth development; and
family living.
Because of our long history of providing relevant and credible
educational programs that address real-life issues, Minnesotans
trust the University of Minnesota Extension Service.
The value of the University of Minnesota Extension Service is enhanced
by our:
- Development of local linkages in communities throughout Minnesota
- Connections to the research base of the University of Minnesota
and other national research centers
- Networks of citizens, scientists, and educators working together
- Partnerships with local, state, and national governments and
organizations
- Ability to build both individual and community capacity
- Utilization of unbiased, credible information and programs
